Paperwork has been collected. New and improved combo smoke detector/carbon monoxide detectors have been purchased. Autobiographies are being written. We will be ready for our home visit on Saturday. After that it will take about another week for the social worker to write the report, and then we will be free to be matched with birthmoms. So exciting! It's just what we have been working towards. We are as ready as we could be emotionally and financially. And yet it is still scary/exciting. Once we get a child, life will never be the same.
The process has already taught me much about being resilient, flexible and open to change. We are going to change our contact person at the Agency we are going through because we feel that there have been some important misunderstandings with her already. We are also getting the sense of how different every birthmom situation can be and we will need to be ready to make big decisions without a whole lot of ability to feel secure that we made the perfect decision.
But my intuition tells me that I should just lean into that feeling, because it is my understanding that parenthood will feel that way a lot along the way. Here goes!
Best wishes for a beautiful home visit!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I remember being so nervous before ours and it turned out to be nothing. We had to ask her if she wanted to see our house. She didn't even take any notes! Just asked us where we got our shades because she wanted the same kind.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are going to pass with flying colors. He/she will walk in and be blown away at what a terrific home you have, your cool neighborhood, and how great you both are. And then another big hurdle will be past!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Niki. Approving your home will be the easiest thing that social worker does all year!
ReplyDeleteHow did it go? Your blog fans are waiting:)
